In 2002, Bill and Jennifer Thompson turned a vision into reality by opening "Runners Performance Footwear & Apparel" in Bay City, Michigan. In those early days, Bill was the sole salesperson, often balancing a shoe fitting in one hand and his young son in the other.
The heart of our business was built on a philosophy called "Custom Serve." Inspired by Bill’s grandmother and her memories of the personalized care found in old-school shoe stores, this mantra became the standard we carry forward today. As we grew to four locations, that commitment to the individual never wavered.
In 2016, we rebranded as Runners Athletic Company to better reflect who we are: an inclusive home for everyone in our community. Whether you’re a marathoner or a mall-walker, we aren't just here to sell shoes—we’re here to help you move better.
